Tangasseri Lighthouse or Thangassery Lighthouse is located at Tangasseri in Kollam city of the Indian state of Kerala. It is one of two lighthouses in the Kollam Metropolitan Area and is kept up by the Chennai Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships. In operation since 1902, the round and hollow lighthouse tower painted with white and red angled groups has a stature of 41 meters (135 ft), making it the second highest lighthouse on the Kerala Coast. Tangasseri Lighthouse is a standout amongst the most went by beacons in Kerala.
History
Preceding development of the lighthouse, the British East India company had introduced a tower with an oil light. In 1902 they charged Tangasseri Lighthouse, which by 1930 had endured breaks in the pinnacle that required jacketing brick work to be introduced. The light source was changed in 1932, 1940, 1962, 1967, 1990 and 1994
